Gilbert Amato has worked in aviation for more than 35 years. After completing a degree in Electronics and then in Vacuum Physics, he joined EUROCONTROL spending eight years in the Karlsruhe UAC (Germany) working on operational ATC systems.
In 1982, he joined Thomson CSF (today Thales) as site manager in Brazil for the installation and setting into operation of turnkey Civil ATC systems, including radar stations, Control Centres and Airports (contract amount of about 100 M$).
When he returned to Europe four years later, he was appointed to positions in Thomson CSF -- Head of ATM Customer Support, VP ATM Advisor, Director of Thales Computers and Thales Group Deputy VP of International Operations, where he assumed other positions as Director General of Thales Joint Ventures (in Argentina, in the Arab Emirates, in Saudi Arabia, etc.) as well as Thales Group representative to the EMBRAER Board of Directors.
Gilbert Amato joined EUROCAE in May 2004 and was appointed Secretary General in July of the same year.
