David Bowen Head of ATM Systems
SESAR Joint Undertaking
David is the Head of ATM Systems at the SESAR Joint Undertaking where he is responsible for the technical systems content of the SESAR programme. He is also the European focal point for SESAR coordination with ICAO for the planning of global standards in support of SESAR and NextGen.
Beginning his career in the UK Defence Research Agency in Malvern he has experience in the development and standardisation of numerous CNS systems including participation to ICAO panels and chairmanship of technical standardisation working groups.
During the 1990’s David spent a number of years working at Eurocontrol on the development of ADS-B and multilateration systems. He returned to Malvern (now QinetiQ) in 2000 to become head of the ATM Systems group.
Prior to taking up his current role in the SESAR JU David spent 4 years as the Technical Secretary of EUROCAE with responsibility for the overall management of EUROCAE technical standards activities as well as working closely with RTCA and other standardisation bodies on coordinated developments between the US and Europe.
David has a degree in Theoretical Physics from the University of St Andrews.
