Richard Whittle is a journalist specializing in military affairs and the author of The Dream Machine: The Untold History of the Notorious V-22 Osprey (Simon & Schuster, April 2010). A regular contributor to the aviation magazine Rotor & Wing, from 1984-2006 Whittle covered the Pentagon and other beats in Washington for The Dallas Morning News. He previously covered defense and foreign policy for Congressional Quarterly magazine and was an editor at National Public Radio.

Whittle’s articles have appeared in the Christian Science Monitor and a wide range of other newspapers and magazines. He has appeared as an interview guest on C-SPAN, National Public Radio, and other broadcast outlets.

Whittle began his career as a reporter for The News and Observer of Raleigh, North Carolina, after graduate study in government at William & Mary College and in journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
