With the recent addition of Capt. David Strand,
Boeing 757/767 program manager and technical pilot with American Airlines, the speaker panel for the Nov. 4 Avionics Magazine Webinar, “NextGen Task Force: Applying The Recommendations,” is confirmed.
Strand will join RTCA Vice President Raymond M. Glennon; Michael Romanowski,
FAA director of NextGen Integration and Implementation; and Capt. Bob Hilb (Ret.), former manager of Advanced Flight Systems at UPS and now an industry consultant.
After seven months of intensive deliberations involving 300 aviation industry stakeholders, the RTCA NextGen Mid-Term Implementation Task Force in September delivered recommendations to
FAA for achieving NextGen operating efficiencies in the next decade.
The Webinar speakers, all of whom participated in the Task Force process, will provide an overview of the recommendations, describe FAA’s response and discuss pros and cons of the proposed approach to achieving NextGen.
Among the discussion points:
• Does the Task Force emphasis on leveraging currently available equipment detract from the capabilities envisioned for NextGen in 2025?
• What specific capabilities are endorsed?
• What will be the process for incorporating the Task Force recommendations in FAA's NextGen Implementation Plan?
• How might the recommendations affect current programs and priorities, such as the deployment of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B)?
• The recommendations have been described as an operators consensus dominated by major airlines. What can the general aviation community hope to gain?
• What new procedures and training would be required for pilots and air-traffic controllers if the recommendations were implemented?
• The Task Force has suggested a number of different mechanisms to "incentivize equipage," including the establishment of a "NextGen Equipage Bank." Where would the money come from for such a bank?
• Will the work of the Task Force be continued in some way?
The hour-long on-line event, which allows for emailed questions from the audience, will take place Wednesday, Nov. 4 from noon to 1 p.m. ET. For more information and to register visit:
