Boeing and Agusta Team Up on Chinooks

Boeing and AgustaWestland have signed a $1.23 billion contract to build and support helicopters for the Italian army. The deal will have Chicago-based Boeing act as a subcontractor to Italian-based Agusta Westland in the building of 16 tandem-rotor, heavy-lift Chinooks at Boeing’s Ridley, Penn. plant outside of Philadelphia. AgustaWestland will then handle systems integration and delivery of the completed aircraft to the Italy. The first batch of completed airframes is scheduled to be delivered in 2013.
