U.S. Navy Plans Keep Emergencies from Populated Areas
Two U.S. Navy Sea King helicopters that collided over Jacksonville, Fla. on Thursday had contingency plans should an emergency landing be necessary. Helicopters flying over Jacksonville, fly over the St. Johns River that winds its way through the downtown area. Should an emergency landing be necessary, these plans give the pilot an opportunity to divert or in the case of a malfunction, to land in any number of fields that line the river.
