Taiwan Prefers Apaches to Cobras
Taiwan's army prefers Boeing’s AH-64 Apache over Bell Helicopter’s upgraded AH-1Z Cobra as its new attack helicopter platform, the Associated Press reports. Quoting Col. Dai Kuang-chao, it said the AH-64D Apache Longbow “fits our military requirements." The Z-model Cobra, which includes a four-bladed main rotor “is still not battle proven." Taiwan wants 30 aircraft, a $1.5 billion deal that must be approved by the U.S. government and Taiwan's legislature. China is expected to pressure Washington not to approve the sale.
