Aircraft Parts May Get RFID Tags

In an effort to speed up inventory and lifespan management checks, Boeing and Airbus researchers have proposed placing RFID tags on aircraft parts. They hope the tags will help reduce ground inspectors and flight delays by using handheld readers to collect data from parts, including the remaining life span, without opening access panels to do visual inspections. It also retains a service history.
