Paris (CDG A/P) A330 of Air France 1hour 20mins into his Brazzaville -Paris flight, captain was informed via ATC that a stowaway was in the MLG compartment - and decided to continue to Paris (six hours away). 1 fatal Autopsy determined that the young boy must have been dead before the crew was advised of his presence. Debate continues on the validity of this determination (because of the hypothermic effects of altitude).
16 Oct. 0805L Albany, N.Y. Beech 1900D of CommutAir Reg: N850CA Captain noted that the elevator was jammed at 115kts during the take-off roll runway 19 and aborted. Nil Elevator trim wheel improperly installed. Getting airborne with pax (none aboard) could have led to a repeat of the Jan. 8 Air Midwest crash.
22 Oct. 1730L Denver, Colo. (ex Trenton, N.J.) Learjet 45 of Bombardier Flexjet Exp uncontrolled spoiler-induced roll during descent thru 13,000ft (spoilers are used as speedbrakes in descent). Nil / 4 o/b Situation recovered by retracting spoilers. High internal resistances found in the spoiler actuator coils.
22 Oct. 2124L Wheeling, Ill. Learjet 60 Reg: N109JR Nosewheel collapsed on landing roll-out runway 16 Wheeling, Illinois Nil / 7 o/b N109JR was air taxi on demand flight.
23 Oct. Las Vegas, Nev. for Ontario, Calif. 737 of SWA Flt: 2466 27yo Mexican male made a bomb threat on board and a/c returned to Las Vegas after a scuffle with a peace officer while enrt to the cockpit. 1 minor Offender claimed addiction to methamphetamines and a mental disorder in a subsequent court appearance.
24 Oct. Pittsburgh, Pa. Convair 240 of Air Tacoma N99380 landed r/way 32 and right engine caught fire (induction fire?). Nil Recip engines sometimes do this while in reverse at low speed. Minor damage
25 Oct. Rancho Murietta, Calif. Lockheed Jetstar Reg: N33SJ Right rear elevator of parked a/c struck by left wingtip of taxiing Gulfstream 2. Nil Substantial damage to both Gulfstream 2 and Jetstar
25 Oct. 1648L Houston, Texas 737-700 of Continental COA1444 encountered turbulence while in cruise. 1 inj Ex Tulsa, Okla. for Houston. F/A broke her leg.
25 Oct. 2147Z Winnipeg, Canada 737-217 of Zip Air Reg: C-GCPP WZP6322 declared an inbound emerg for a total #1 hyd system failure (gear and flaps being lowered manually). Nil #1A sys low press lt followed by #2A sys low press lt. Faulty pressure relief valve in A system pressure module.
26 Oct. 1609L Burlington, Mass. CRJ-100 of Comair Comair 719 struck a bird on landing approach. Nil Ice detector damaged.
26 Oct. 0215L Waterbury Oxford Gulfstream 4 Reg: N393BD Overran runway end on landing and became stuck in mud. Nil / 7 o/b No further details (air taxi on demand). Waterbury, Conn.
26 Oct. 0431L Buenos Aires FH227B of CATA Linea Aerea Flt: 670 LV-MGV deptd Ezeiza r/way 17 @ 0428 & reqstd immediate return. A/c crashed on the golf course & burnt out 5 fatal / 5 o/b Planned destination was Corrientes (Camba Punta A/P). Suspect electrical fire/smoke scenario
26 Oct. Manchester UK 737-200A of Air Malta Reg: 9H-ABE Flt KM139 to Malta was hit by an airport vehicle during pushback. Nil KM395 diverted from Amsterdam to Manchester to board the stranded pax. Minor damage to 9H-ABE
27 Oct. Newark, N.J. 767 of American Airlines 1.5m long alligator was captured in the a/c hold after escaping from its crate (one of four saurians). Nil Cargo handler was confronted with the angry alligator upon opening up the belly hold.
28 Oct. Boston, Mass. Beech1900D of US Airways Express Box-cutters found after aircraft arrived from Rockland, Maine, on positioning flight. Nil Another blade found in Philadelphia in a seat pouch of a US Airways jet from Houston (bound for Phoenix).
28 Oct. 0800L Atlanta, Ga. MD-88 of Delta Flt 504 to LaGuardia, N.Y., returned Hartsfield A/P after an engine fire. Nil Fire reportedly unable to be extinguished airborne.
28 Oct. New Delhi 747 of BA An Australian and a British citizen were arrested after onboard drunken misbehavior enrt from Heathrow. Nil The two men were later charged with drunk & disorderly conduct plus sexual harassment.
28 Oct 0851L Cheyenne, Wyo. C208 Caravan of Corporate Air N791FE (flt 8773) crashed on finals r/way 04 Yellowstone A/P, ending up in icy Lake Alkali. 1 fatal Freighter crashed during appch in bad weather after a 20 min holding pattern over Cody VOR.
28 Oct. 1158L Birmingham, Al. Citation Jet C525 Reg: N225EL Blew a tire on landing and was unable to clear the runway. Nil Nil weather.
29 Oct. Khartoum, Sudan Changhe Z-8 (Chinese supplied) Helicopter went down 270kms SW Khartoum due to a technical fault 20 fatal / 20 o/b 9 pax were being medevac'd after a vehicular accident.
30 Oct. 1130L Nagoya, Japan A330-300 of Cathay Pacific Flt 501 bound HongKong declared an emerg and landed back after detecting a burning smell in the cockpit Nil / 194 pax & 13 crew A/c departed Tokyo Intl A/P and smell was detected at 16,000ft in the climb.
