18 Aug. Aberdeen Scotland Jetstream 32 of Eastern Airways Suitcase fell from the hold of G-BYRA at 12,000ft (pod door light illuminated) Nil / 5 + 3 crew T3 4713 Leeds Bradford to Aberdeen (see imagery). An open and shut case.
18 Aug. 1814L Jackson, Wyoming Citation 750 of NetJets Air taxi a/c's right main gear collapsed during landing roll-out. Nil / 2 +2 crew Reg: N961QS
24 Aug. Via Gatwick UK 737 of Astreus + Continental 767 38yo U.S. pax fm Sierra Leone died in New Jersey hospital of Lassa fever. 1 pax died later FAA's just announced a new "Center of Excellence for Cabin Air Quality"
25 Aug. morning London City A/P DO328 of Cirrus Airways #2 engine failed at 500ft after t/off from London City A/P so a/c returned.
Landed runway 28 with 3 o/b.
26 Aug. morning Beira Mozambique EMB120 of TransAirway Aircraft was seriously damaged in a landing accident (gear collapsed). Nil / 28 + 3crew Op'd by LAM Awys. Prior accident to Transairway at Maputo on 24 Aug.
26 Aug. Las Cruces Intl. New Mexico C32A (B757) of U.S. President's VIP Fleet President's arrival in an a/c exceeding the airport's LCN left a half-mile of deep tire ruts that cost >$1M to repair Only to taxpayers LCN = Load Classification Number (Pres entourage had been advised that the C32A would damage the runway).
27 Aug. 1100GMT Khartoum, Sudan C130 charter of Libyan military 4 out of 78 Eritrean deportees hijacked a/c after it dept'd from Kufrah Libya. Nil Hijackers surrendered after landing in Khartoum, taking off with little fuel and landing again.
28 Aug. noon Gisenyi, Rwanda Caravelle of Gabon Awys 36 y.o. 3D-KIK crashed and burnt out near the control tower - after problems
Last flying Caravel(le). Nil casualties after eventful final landing. In imagery.
29 Aug. Athens, Greece MD-90 of SAS (Scandinavian ) A/c forced to burn off fuel and return after the gear would not retract fully. Nil / 180 pax Bound for Copenhagen, Denmark, with returning Olympic competitors.
30 Aug. night Surgut, Russia TU154 of Kogalymavia Aircraft landed at destination after one of its three engines failed enroute. Nil / 166 pax (Volgograd-Surgut) Prior emerg ldg with eng failure on Aug 21st at Surgut.
30 Aug. Paris (CDG A/P) 777-300ER of Air France Paris-Tokyo flight. GE90-115B engine flamed out on the runway and the flight was cancelled. Nil / 246 pax GE90-115B has a problematic record for a new engine on the 777-300ER (a couple of IFSDs and one JAL shutdown due fuel leak).
