15 May Sydney NSW, Australia 737 of Qantas 747 of Qantas On takeoff Qantas 737 hit a thrust reverser blocker door that had fallen off a QF 747 and laid undetected on the runway. Nil 737 returned with NLG tire and fuselage damage. Rolls Royce Service Bulletin carried out on all QF747's.
11 June Gatwick 757 of First Choice Landed back 15 mins after dept for Kerkyra Corfu at 1845L with smoke. Nil Strong burning smell after departure was causing passenger distress.
18 June Auckland to Sydney 737-800 of Qantas A/c turned back after pilots realized they'd uplifted the wrong fuel load to cross the Tasman Sea. Nil Those winter jetstreams make a big difference in East and West-bound fuel burn-offs (about 4 to 6 tons).
18 June 0335L Almaty, Kazakh 757-200 of Air Astana Emergency landing after failure to extend part of its u/carriage. Nil / 152 o/b Amsterdam-Atyrau-Almaty flt - aircraft was undamaged.
19 June Indonesian airspace 767-300 of Qantas Indonesian controllers tried to descend QF383 into head-on with an opposite direction same Company 767-300. Nil / 225 pax Pilots were visual with HK-Brisbane bound opposition & refused clearance (2nd such incident in 3 months).
22 June evening Lisbon, Portugal A320 of MYT A/c bound for Tenerife(TFS) diverted Lisbon with a fire warning. Nil No further details.
22 June Toronto, Canada Westwind 1124 Reg: C-FZEI Gear stuck down so a/c dumped fuel and returned to land. Nil Minor damage due NLG scissor-link left disconnected after towing by FBO.
22 Jun 1313L Faro Portugal IL-62 of MCHS Rossia Arrived from Ekaterinburg, departed and overran after a take-off abort. Nil / 86 pax Runway blocked until 1700L.
23 June 1450Z Calgary, Alberta DHC8-301 of JAZZAir C-GMTA left MLG (only) retracted after t/off so gear manually extended. Nil / 44 o/b Nose-gear hyd upline failure.
23 June Houston, Texas Embraer RJ145 of Expressjet AL Skidded off the overrun whilst landing 26R and struck approach lighting. Nil BTA2222 minor damage on arrival from Gulfport, Texas.
24 June Utapao, Thailand 747 of Orient Thai x two Two aircraft severely vandalized whilst parked at Utapao base. Nil Inadequate (nil) security on joint mil/civil airfield.
24 June 2300Z Boston, Mass. MD80 of Delta Reg: N958DL Ran over something on the runway on take-off and diverted to Boston. Nil / 115 o/b Destination was Atlanta. Damage to right wing inboard flap and right main inboard tire.
24 June Mugla, Turkey A310 of Turkish Airlines Antalya to Istanbul flt diverted Mugla after being struck by lightning. Nil Radar rendered inoperative by strike and nose cone radome damaged.
24 June evening Tolmachevo, Russia IL-76 of Aeroflot Eng fire persisted for 20 mins whilst crew recovered a/c to Novosibirsk A/P Nil / 10pax 13 crew Kamchatka to Tchkalovsk. Fire was extinguished before landing.
24 June Malaga, Spain 757 of Monarch Flt: 5251 UK bound flight from the Canaries diverted in with a pressn problem. Nil Fault restricted flight to 18,000ft.
24 June night Boston, Mass. MD-88 of Delta Flt 1201 Landed Logan after tire rubber found on departure r/way at T.F.Green A/P. Nil Tire was found to be still inflated.
25 June Sofia, Bulgaria 737-800 of Turkish Airlines TK1430 bound Istanbul returned with a non-retracting main-gear. Nil No further details.
25 June 0130Z Chicago, Il. A319 of Air Canada C-FYJG Struck left wingtip against a stairwell at Gate E-1 on arrival from Montreal. Nil Minor damage.
25 June 2002Z Englewood, Colo. Falcon 20 of Northern Leasing N299DB blew 2 LH tires and lost hydraulics on dept & divtd Billings. Nil / 7 o/b Deptd Englewood and Landed OK at Billings.
26 June 1845L Myachkovo Moskva Lisunov Li-2T of Global Edge Reg: RA-1300K crashed into a house soon after an engine failed on take-off. 2 crew fatal / 5 Last airworthy example of the Russian adaptations of the DC-3.
26 June Ciampino, Italy 737 of Ryanair Flt 3005 Rome-Stansted flight returned with a stuck flap and flight was cancelled. Nil / 143 o/b Pax proceeded on other flights.
26 June Khartoum, Sudan AN-12 of Saria Reg: ST-SAF Eng caught fire & a/c swerved off runway on take-off at Wau, Sudan. 3 inj / 5 crew Spectating boy had leg broken. Run over by aircraft.
27 June 2055L Manchester, UK A300 of Monarch Flt ZB580 A/c returned after a fuselage panel dropped to the runway on take-off. Nil / 343 o/b No further details.
27 June LAX USA 747-400 of Lufthansa D-ABVA landed so hard that a first class passenger required medical attention. 1 inj Flt 0456 originated Frankfurt. Speakers dropped from TV monitors.
28 June Schiphol, Netherlands 737 of KLM KL1163 bound Gothenburg returned with smoke in the cabin. Nil No further details.
28 June Darwin, Australia Brasilia of Air North Flt ex Dili East Timor shut an engine down 40kms out of Darwin. Nil / 20 pax No further details.
28 June 0238Z Gander Oceanic 777-200 of AA Flt: AAL122 Diverted St John's with smoke in the cabin and landed there 0407Z. Nil 1.5hrs to a landing with smoke (crew pulled CB for IFE system).
29 June Kinshasa N'dijili DR Congo Antonov AN-26 Locally operated a/c lost its starboard prop (sliced through cockpit) on t/off. 1 inj Copilot suffered cuts from shattered perspex but a/c landed safely.
29 June 1700L Vilanculos A/P Beech 200 Reg: ZS-NRW Crashed after wet strip t/off near the San Sebastian tourist sanctuary. 2 fatal / 2 Vilanculos Mozambique (700kms N of Maputo). Ngangweni Air Charter Co.
29 June 1600L Shannon, Ireland 767 of Delta Istanbul-JFK flt emerg diverted because of earlier Istanbul bom.b Nil / 189 pax 12 crew Landed 1600L and departed 1940L after a search for explosive.s
29 June 0930Z Istanbul Intl A/P 737-800 of Turkish Airlines Small wallet sized bomb exploded in a/c on the ramp injuring the 3 cleaners. 3 inj Blast occurred after pax disembarked - arrived from Izmir (due to fly to Stockholm later).
29 June Sierra Leone MI-8MTV-1 of UTair UN Peacekeepers' helo departed Freetown and crashed on a hillside. 24fatal / 24 o/b Bound Kailahun (UNAMSIL has 11,800 peacekeepers in Sierra Leone)
30 June Tullamarine Victoria, Australia A330-300 of Qantas New a/c VH-QPF towbar broke and it overran tug on hangar to terminal tow. Nil Prior to flying its first revenue sector. L eng cowl and L nosewheel damaged.

30 June 0635L Manchester, New Hampshire A319 of Northwest & CRJ of United Xpress CRJ tail was clipped by A319 wing on taxiway Alpha (serving runway 17/35) United was holding on taxiway Papa. Nil / 95 pax Nil / 39 pax Atlantic Coast Airlines operated CRJ (Flt 567) will need a new rudder. NW811 pilots suspended.
30 June 2047L Munich, Germany A320-212 of Freebird Airline After 10mins, pilot ret'd a/c to airport after 3 hijackers tried to storm cockpit. Ni l/ 150 pax Special forces arrested hijackers including one who jumped from cockpit hatch.
01 July 1000L Wangaratta, Australia Beech KingAir Emerg declared for smoke in cockpit , pilot killed the electrics and diverted. Nil /8 o/b Chafed wiring started a small fire behind the instrument panel.
02 July Panama City, Panama Westwind 1124 of AirTrek Air Ambulance N280AT crashed into a hangar after veering off runway heading on t/off. One person killed on the ground. 7 dead Engine exploded, severing the rudder cables. Engine event may have been caused by a tire breakup & ingestion.
02 July 1240L Grand Rapids, Mich. DC-9 of Northwest Minneapolis to Newark, N.J., flight made emerg landing with low oil pressure. Nil At Gerald R. Ford International.
02 July 1634Z Tallahassee, Fla. DC-9 of HW Aviation LLC Hydraulics failed on landing and aircraft went off the end. Nil / 5 o/b Minor damage.
03 July 2330Z Atlanta, Ga. 777 of Delta DAL20 was struck by a service truck while parked at Gate E17. Nil Substantial damage to fwd LH door. A/c taken out of service.
03 July am hrs Shannon, Ireland A320 of Aer Lingus A/c impaled on ramp by lifting platform of unmanned service truck. Nil Badly spiked on RHS between wing leading edge and front cargo door.
04 July Russian airspace 767-300 of Pakistan Airlines Intercept by scrambled Russian MIG 29 steered it out of Russian airspace. Nil Diplomatic clearance slip-up (enrt Lahore Pakistan to Manchester UK).
04 July 1000L Leh, India 737-200 of Alliance Air Landed back 55 mins after take-off following eng problems after t/off. Nil / 64 pax Fuel burn-off after take-off from Leh (field elevation 10,682 feet amsl).
05 July 1636Z Washington Dulles CRJ-200 of United Express BLR7535 w'tip struck another own Company a/c w'tip on pushback. Nil Both a/c's winglets damaged.
06 July 2000L Sydney, Australia 767-300 of QANTAS QF187 departed for HK at 1520, was recalled & landed 2000 after burn-off. Nil / 189 pax No fuel-dump capability - believed related to a pressurization problem.
07 July Den Pasar, Bali, Indonesia 747 of Garuda A Perth stunt man choked a drunken maniac unconscious enrt Perth to Bali after he broke out of airline handcuffs. Nil Garuda denied him onwards carriage to Netherlands (although released by Bali police). Man without a country.
08 July 1500L Auckland 767 of Air NZ Flt NZ10 to Honolulu dumped fuel & ret'd with a flap asymmetry problem. Nil / 137 o/b Launched midday and returned 3p.m.
08 July O'Hare Intl., USA DC-9 of NW 747 of Polar Air 2 truck drivers had 3 run-ins with landing aircraft following repeated unintentional runway incursions. Nil Invaded runways causing go-rounds. AMASS surface movement radar did not preclude the encounters
08 July 1815L Piarco Intl., British West Indies (BWI) A340 of BWIA Reg: 9Y-TJN Baggage truck slammed Flt BW-900 in the underbelly (severe damage). Nil 3rd incident in a month at Piarco by Servisair. Attributed to negligence
09 July Saltsy, Russia TU22-M3 of Russian AF Crashed near Saltsy A/P in the Novgorod Region of Volga District 4 fatal /4 o/b Unknown cause.
