09 Dec 1140L Wichita, Kansas - Mena, Arkansas Beech 1900C of Raytheon Aircraft Services Reg: N127YV Crashed approx 9 mls north of the Mena Intermountain Municipal Airport, Mena, Arkansas 2crew/1pax fatal/3 on board Collided with terrain on a VMC clear day delivery flight.
26 Dec Windhoek, South Africa 737-200 of TAAG Collided over Windhoek SA with a WestAir Cessna 404 due faulty ATC radio and nil radar. Nil/50 on board 737 and 1 on C404 Perplexingly, TAAG crew continued to destination (Lubango, Angola). Ten seat Cessna lost most of its tail-fin and rudder but landed safely.
01 Jan Denver-Dallas 737 of Frontier Flt: 136 Reg: N313FL Mechanic disabled aircraft that he considered unfit to fly after lightning strike inspection - by throwing a chock into an intake. Nil Charged in Federal Court. Fan Blades, cowl and inlet cowl inlet air temp. (IAT) sensor and inlet pressure sensor damaged within idling engine at pushback.
02 Jan Glasgow UK 737 of Ryanair Late abort after birdstrike on take off. Nil Prestwick bound. Held on runway for hot brakes.
04 Jan Taipei-Honolulu 747 of China Airlines Flt: CI-018 A/C reported to have flown dangerously close to 41 story (350ft) residential building during approach. Nil Possible nil allowance for sea-breeze effect on runway heading tracking caused inshore (vice offshore) passage.
04 Jan Koshiro Japan SAAB340 of Hokkaido (HAC) Flt: 6253 Overshot 2500m runway into snowbank on landing from Sapporo (Shin-Chitose) Nil/7 on board Landed long in snow shower with only 200-300 meters visibility. 19 flights cancelled.
04 Jan F'furt-Mex City 747 of Lufthansa Diverted Chicago (O'Hare) after bomb threat. Nil/411 on board No further details (pax overnighted Chicago).
04 Jan Sao Paulo Br BAe125 (to be confirmed) VIP jet overshot runway at Congonhas airport onto perimeter road. 2fltcrew inj slightly. One inj on ground Carried president of Brazil's ruling Liberal Party. Congonhas is in thickly populous area.
05 Jan 1230Z Zurich 777-2H6(ER) of MAS Reg: 9M-MRM Flt: MH9 A/C right wing contacted de-ice trucks on premature taxi from 16 de-icer pad. Nil Flt cancelled due to extensive wing damage. Attributable to too many radio frequencies in use on ground.
06 Jan LAX-JFK 767 of UAL Flt: UA16 On takeoff a/c lost tire #4 on right gear. Nil Take off was continued and the aircraft safely returned to LAX.
06 Jan Cleveland, Ohio RJ145LR of Continental Reg: N16571 Hard landing runway 06 Cleveland and nosewheel collapsed. Nil/50 on board Blowing snow and strong winds. A/C hit off-runway obstacle causing substantial damage.
06 Jan DHC-8 of Wideroe Flt: WF932 Reg: LN-WIN A/C ran off runway 08 on landing, coming to rest on an embankment. Nil Snow and slushy ice on runway.
08 Jan Kabul 727 of Ariana A/C forced to land in UAE by U.S. fighter after suspicions of hijack. Nil False alarm and Hadj a/c proceeded to Jeddah.
08 Jan Haneda Ja 737-500 of Air Nippon Flt: 551 Landed after suffering crack in cockpit window. Nil/52 on board Returned after 15mins airborne on flight to Ishigaki (Okinawa).
08 Jan Charlotte A/P (NC) Beech 1900D of Air Midwest Flt US5481 Reg: N233YV A/C crashed inverted from a loss of control at about 1,200 ft. after a steeply climbing take off. 21fatal/21 on board (19pax/2plts) NTSB looking into a/c loading details possible door openings and recent maintenance to elevator. If maint. error leading to mis-rigged or jammed control cables, this tragedy could mark another single-point failure due to maintenance. A/C was enroute to Greenville's Spartanburg A/P SC. 15th hull loss for Beech 1900 and 1st hull loss for Air Midwest.
08 Jan Diyarbakir A/P RJ-100 of Turkish airlines THY Reg: TC-THG Crashed 2 miles short on approach in heavy fog. Other preliminary reports say it impacted about 130 ft. short. 75fatal/77 on board Flt originated Istanbul. Diyabakir A/P is in Kurdish SE Turkey. 9th hull loss of Avro RJ/BAe 146 aircraft and the 21st hull loss for THY.
09 Jan East Midlands UK A300B4F of DHL Landing in darkness, veered off icy runway into mud. Nil Minor undercarriage damage.
09 Jan Chiclayo to Chachapoyas F28 of TANS PERU Flt: 222 Was declared an emergency at 8:43 a.m. (EST) near the Chachapoyas airport. Unknown at this time (46 on board) Contact lost 5 mins before ETA and assumed down in mountains near Lonya Chico, Peru.
