09 Dec 0055L 737-700 of Continental Flt: COA696 A/C encountered moderate turbulence before landing San Angelo, Texas. 5inj 3 F/A and 2 pax with minor injuries.
11 Dec 1625Z Winnipeg Ca SA226TC of Perimeter Airlines PAG 203 departed for God's Lake Narrows and at 60 NM north of YWG, the crew reported smoke in the cockpit and returned. Nil Oil in the heating system ducts produced some smoke after the crew turned on the heaters in the cockpit after departure.
12 Dec BAe146 of FlyBe On desc Belfast a/c experienced severe unexpected control movts. 4inj Not turbulence related.
13 Dec Singapore-Tokyo 747-400 of UAL Flt: UA882 Tire blew on take-off Singapore so a/c continued to Tokyo (Narita). Nil Landed without any drama.
13 Dec 0027Z Ottawa Ca CL600-2B16 of Air Canada ACA334 departed Ottawa at 0007Z. 20 south advised of a flap problem and unable to resolve. Elected to return to Ottawa and when 10 south of the field declared an emergency. Nil Vectored for runway 32 and landed at 0027Z. No further details.
14 Dec Jacksonville Intl (Fla) Beech200 of KG Beverage Co. Reg: N623VP Gear failed to retract fully on dept Ft Lauderdale Exec Airport and collapsed on landing at Jacksonville. Nil Substantial damage.
16 Dec SA226AT of Bearskin Flt:BLS388 Deptd runway 25 Thunder Bay and advised a baggage door indication. Nil Aircraft returned to Thunder Bay and landed safely at 1223.
16 Dec Seattle Wa DH-125 bizjet of National Leasing Gear-up Landing at Seattle likely cause was system malfunction. Nil Clarification from NTSB update (see ASW, Dec. 23, 2002).
17 Dec Jo'Burg 747-200 of SAA Jo'burg-HK bound flt dumped fuel and returned. Nil Unable to raise gear-lever.
18 Dec Anchorage-Soldotna Ak Merlin IIIa of FS Air (aka SA-226T) Landed in reported 6in unswept snow but encountered deep patch and departed runway down embankment.
Substantial fuselage damage caused by trees struck. Operational hazard for accepting unswept operations.
20 Dec Edmonton Ca 767-233 of Air Canada Flt: ACA126 Crew declared emergency and evacuated pax after smoke poured from floor of a/c at the dept gate. Nil Water-line heat tape caused fire in hold (See 13 May 02 AC117 fire - ASW, Jun 10).
20 Dec Emb-145 of Skyways Emerg return Arlanda (smoke light in baggage hold). Nil/48 on board Circuit fault.
21 Dec Taipei-Macau ATR-72 of Transasia Flt:GE791 Crashed 0105L (50 mins after t/o Taipei) and just after reqst desc fm 18,000ft to 16,000ft due weather. 2f/2 on board Possible icing induced loss of control (snowing on Taiwan mountain at the time).
22 Dec 1044L A310 of AeroFlot Flt: SU243 Landed Schoenefeld (Berlin) after eng fail enroute Moscow-London. Nil/210 on board No further details.
23 Dec 1930L AN-140 of HESA (new design by Antonov Bureau) Crashed into high elevation terrain during approach to Isfahan ( Central Iran). 46f/46 A/c (build date 30 Nov 02) had only 72 hrs logged (pilot error - controlled flight into terrain - CFIT).
24 Dec Metroliner of North Flying -opr Benair Crashed onto roadway on take-off Aberdeen after bird-strike/engfail. 2inj/2crew 2inj/in car Car and plane destroyed by fire.
25 Dec Osaka-Seoul DC10-40 of JAL Flt: JL961 Ret Osaka with fluct eng oil pressure gauge (10 mins after dept). Nil/194 Repeat of the prior day's "fixed" problem.
29 Dec Cincinnati 767 of Delta Pax complained of strong fuel smell in cabin during JFK-Cincinnati leg. Nil/130pax Crew declared emergency but Nil fault found after shutdown.
29 Dec Chicago-London 777-200 of UAL Flt: UA928 Diverted Grand Rapids after smoke appeared in cabin soon after t/off. Nil No further details.
30 Dec 1110Z 747F of El Al Amsterdam-TelAviv flt diverted into Belgrade (indications of fire). Nil False cargo-hold smoke detection. Flt resumed after 4 hr delay.
01 Jan 1100L 757-200 of AA Ex Medellin(Col) for NY, Diverted to Kingston with burning smell. Nil/175 Nothing found on the ground.
