A320 of Finnair An A320's false fire warning caused fuel diversion of a Finnair a/c to Leeds Bradford due to vis 800m in fog at Manchester & a train of other events. Nil Two maydays from BA a/c within 5 mins - first the Manchester shuttle with engine fire indications, then another into Birmingham for low fuel.

18 Dec. 2200L Mitu, Colombia DC-9-15F of LAS Freighter declared missing once it was 3hrs overdue. 3 fatal / 3 o/b Deptd. El Yopal for Mitu and is assumed to have crashed on descent.
18 Dec. 1230LMemphis, Tenn. MD-10 N364FE FedEx Flt 647 Destroyed by fire after RH MLG collapsed on ldg & wing-root failed. 2 inj / 7 o/b RH MLG and wing-root seems to be a common DC10/MD10/MD11 failing.
19 Dec. afternoon Adelaide, Australia Unknown type City Beach woman almost hit by emergency exit door falling from a/c. Nil knocked a metal gate off its hinges.
19 Dec. 1915L Washington DC 747-400 of Virgin Flt VS022 Pilot arrested for exceeding alcohol limits and flight cancelled. Nil / 383 o/b Pilot suspended by Virgin pending internal inquiry.
19Dec. 1915L London Heathrow 747-400 of SIA Flt: SQ319 Fuel dumped and a/c returned due to heavy vibration caused by birdstrike to #4 engine on t/off 27R. Nil Bent fan blades & inlet guide vanes on cold side of eng. Possible damage to hot end. Blood on pylon and flaps.
20 Dec. Florianopolis, Brazil 737-76N of GOL Reg::PR-GOO A/c landed on wet runway, departed the side and demolished a high wall. Nil / 148 o/b Flt 1756 a/c severely damaged after landing long at Navegantes A/P.
21 Dec. 1850L Liverpool, UK 737 of EasyJet Flt107 Crew declared a mayday for sudden decompression and diverted Liverpool. Nil / 133 pax Luton-Glasgow flight

23 Dec Amsterdam 737 of EasyJet Slow taxiing a/c lost traction and right wing was destroyed against lightpole. Nil ATC notified a/c of very slippery taxiways but they remained unswept.
24 Dec. 1120L Gatwick, UK 737-700 of EasyJet Emerg descent after F/O's window cracked with a loud bang at FL380. Nil EZY5222 Alicante-Gatwick (side-window cracked). A/c landed Gatwick.
25 Dec 1415Z Cotonou, Benin 727-223 of UTA Charter 3X-GDM GIH141 crashed into a low building on t/off for Beirut & finished in the ocean. 141 fatal/ 163 o/b Suspected to have been overweight. Lebanese airliner reg'd in Guinea.
27 Dec. Mzuzu, Malawi Grand Caravan of Air Malawi Hit minibus on t/off (100m on extended center-line) as 7QYKU aborted/o'ran. 4inj / 9 o/b Bus occupant killed, others injured but Malawi Vice Pres Chihana survived.
27 Dec. Valencia, Spain MD-83 of Spanair JKK3374 Diverted Valencia after an engine explosion short of top-of drop Alicante. Nil Ex Prestwick. Cabin filled with thick black smoke. Prior bird-strike blamed.
28 Dec. Grand Rapids, Mich. DC-9 of NorthWest Flt. # 1723 blew a tire on t/off and returned. Nil / 125 pax Ford International Airport.
28 Dec. Karachi 747-300 of PIA Flt PK368 Ingested a bird near Nawabshah on departure and returned Karachi. Nil / 211 pax Enroute Islamabad.
30 Dec. 1830L New York, JFK 747-400 of BA Flt 177 Smell led to decomposed body being found in wheelwell (emplanement on Dec. 22in Lagos, Nigeria, is suspected). 2 dead 25 Dec: a 4 day old Dominican body was found in an AA A300's wheelwell after arrival JFK from Montego Bay.
01 Jan. Tokunoshima, Japan MD-81 of JASFlt: 979 Port undercarriage collapsed and left wing-tip damaged on landing. 2 inj / 168 o/b 1350km SW of Tokyo. Significant damage on arrival from Kagoshima.
01 Jan. Madrid, Spain 737-700 of EasyJet flt2204 Luton-bound Chilean passenger arrested after pushback for threats. Nil / 139 pax Found to be carrying two concealed pen-knives. Flt deptd 75mins late.
02 Jan. 1830L Pensacola, Fla. MD-80 of Delta Overran r/way 17 by 75m after long landing in rolling fog conditions. Nil / 145 o/b Minor damage to a/c (arriving from Atlanta). Other flights were diverted.
03 Jan. 1800L Honolulu DC-10 of NWA flt NWA923 First class pax arrested after violently attempting to invade cockpit. Nil 31 y.o. Knoxville science teacher was handcuffed 2hrs out of Honolulu.
03 Jan. Funchal, Portugal A320-212 of Air Luxor Nose-gear retracted after pushback injuring some groundcrew members. G'crew minor inj Occurred during pushback disconnect (see imagery). Not unusual on A320.
04 Jan 0200L Rostov-on-Don, Russia AN-12 of unknown operator Landed under ATC direction while squawking the hijack code Nil Believed to have been a false alarm (enroute Moscow to Abu Dhabi UAE).
03 Jan. 0444L Sharm el-Sheikh 737-300 of Flash Flt:FSH604 Quickly disappeared off radar after t/off in a rt descending turn fm 5000ft. 148 fatal / 148 o/b No comms. Possible control loss on dark night (electrical/smoke problem?).
04 Jan. 1030L Columbia, Mo. CL65 of United Express Flight diverted Columbia after a cruise failure of its left engine. Nil / 46 o/b Kansas City to Washington (Dulles) flight.
05 Jan. 0820L Munich, Germany FK70 of Austrian Crash-landed 3kms short of r/way 26L after reporting appch engine problems One inj/37 o/b Fokker landed in an open snowy field. Damage unknown. Icing suspected.
