Fortunately no fire erupted. About 20 persons on board suffered injuries >20 injured/ 53 aboard Aircraft was carrying 50 soldiers from Cali to Villagarzon when unspecified problems occurred during flight. 24 Aug evening Surrey B.C. Canada Hot Air Balloon of Fantasy Balloons Charters based in Langley, B.C All but two pax baled out after hot-air balloon envelope and basket caught fire. Balloon self-launched (after moorings burnt) to >400ft and then plummeted ... 2 dead/ 12 injured ... into Hazelmere RV trailer park as gas bottles exploded and balloon burnt up. Three 40ft trailer-homes were also destroyed.

26 Aug ~1600L DRC Congo AN32 passenger/ freighter of Agfretco Air Other sources say "Great Lake Business Company" is the owner/operator Developed engine problems and crashed 3kms from the runway soon after taking off from Kongolo for Goma 500k NE. Aircraft was carrying 9 tonnes of tin ores (cassiterite) 13 dead + 2 injured/15 Kongolo city is 650 kilometers from Lubumbashi - the centre of the Katanga province. Crashed during its turnback. GLBC is used to transport arms and ammunition in violation of the UN arms embargo (from UN list of violators at tinyurl.com/2ne7x8)
27 Aug afternoon Mitu A/p Colombia An-32B of Selva Colombia Reg: HK-4117 An-32 had arrived from Villavicencio (VVC) carrying drums of fuel. A fire started in the nr.1 engine after the drums had been offloaded. nil A larger fuselage fire erupted, destroying the plane. 2nd Selva Colombia aircraft loss in five days
27 Aug ~1600L Vancouver Canada A340-300 of China Eastern Seen off the edge of taxiway H on the grass verge with outboard tires deflated (or sunken in very significantly). Corner-cutting? nil Stuck in mud from 1600 to 2200. Finally freed after deplanement of cargo and pax and a defuel. Moved to the south Air Canada hangar for inspections.
