ATM to Be Focus of Paris Meeting, Overnight News

FAA, SESAR, AIA, IATA and ITT will be hunkering down next week at a conference, timed to coincide with the Paris Air Show, to discuss solutions to the more serious challenges of air traffic management as the skies become more congested.

The forum, scheduled for Monday, June 15 at the ITT PAS Pavilion, Hall 3, Stand D52, is being convened by ITT is critical as air traffic management organization try to capitalize on the worldwide traffic slump to prepare for the future.

“By 2015, the current U.S. ATC system will be unable to handle the rising number of aircraft and passengers, which are expected to increase 50% over the next decade,” said the company in announcing the meeting. “Meanwhile, in Europe, flights are expected to increase between 70 and 120% above 2007 levels by the year 2030.”

Panel topics will also include harmonization and interoperability, as well as the safety, efficiency and environmental benefits of next generation ATC systems.

ITT Chairman and CEO Steve Loranger will host the event. Panelists participating in the roundtable include:

• Peter Griffiths, Vice President for Europe, International Air Transport Association – Griffiths, informed by his former role as Director General of the U.K.’s Civil Aviation Authority, brings a European perceptive to the conversation.
• Marion Blakey, former FAA Administrator from 2002-2007 and current President and CEO, Aerospace Industry Association – Blakey led the development of NextGen during her time at the FAA. She is a leading proponent of air traffic control modernization.
