02 Oct. 1100Z Quebec Canada DHC-8 of Hydro Quebec APZ160 C-GHQP (on ramp) requested ARFF because of smoke in the cabin. Nil Thought to be due to engine #1 Adapter Heater (PW150A).
02 Oct. 1535Z Halifax NS A319-114 of Air Canada C-FZUH Flt: ACA637 A/c from St Johns decl'd emerg due inability to lower gear. Manually lowered and landed 06, closing r/way for a period while gear was safed. Nil A/c had been operating under MEL with #2 LGCIU inop (Landing Gear Control Interface Unit). #1 LGCIU also failed while enroute to Halifax.
03 Oct. 0255L North Bend, Ore. Gulfstream GII N477GG A/c struck numerous geese at 50ft agl on finals r/way 4 North Bend. Nil L wing, L flap, L MLG door struck leaving overall minor damage.
06 Oct. 1611L Charlotte, NC 777-200 of BA Flt: 2227 Gatwick-Atlanta flt divtd due heavy smoke from inflight entertainment unit. Nil / 200+ pax A first class VCR/DVD Unit "went up in smoke" (passenger report).
07 Oct. 1940Z Toronto, Ontario A330-322 of Air Canada ACA142 ex Vancouver cleared ILS 24R actually landed 24L (by mistake). Nil ATC realized late and permitted the error (no operational impact).
07 Oct. 0943L Munich MD83 of Spanair Flt: JK123 EC-HBP fm Valencia skidded off runway 26L at the point of turn-off . Nil Heavy rain & strong gusts. Minor damage. Runway 08/26 closed 3.5hrs.
08 Oct 1510L Burbank Ca 737-700 of American Airlines AAH461 ingested several birds into both engs while landing r/way 08. Nil Additional minor damage to right wing, right main and nose-gear.
08 Oct. 1643L London Heathrow BAC Concorde of BA BA1215 aborted at moderate speed when #3 afterburner failed to light. Nil G-BOAE
09 Oct. Newburgh, N.Y. Gulfstream GIV N404QS A/c landed r/way 27 at Stewart NY and reptd hearing an abnormal noise on departure Helsinki Finland. Nil Helsinki advised. Rubber and metal debris retrieved and damage then found to GIV nosewheel and tire.
09 Oct. 0315Z Kathmandu, Nepal, for Hong Kong 757-200 of Royal Nepal Flt: RA409 Experienced cascading failure of all avionics, some systems and all but STBY flt insts just after t/off (on Igris 1A dept) in marginal weather for HongKong (autothrottle, autobrake, autopilots, weather radar, yaw dampers, anti-skid, RDMI, ADIs, FMC, FD, HSI etc). Nil / 202 on board Crew maintained visual in marginal wx for an hour until KTM weather improved. Suspect faulty (Murphied) IRS triplex reconnection by groundcrew following attempts to isolate a faulty center IRS for MEL. Fault probably set off by TOGA press (for IRS reset) on runway line-up.
11 Oct. 1440Z Winnipeg Manitoba A319 of Air Canada ACA1158 diverted to Winnipeg with cockpit fumes. Nil / 96 o/b Enroute Edmonton-Toronto. Declared emergency 1435 and landed 1508Z.
11 Oct. 2134L Richmond, Va. E145 of Chautauqua A baggage cart struck N270SK while it was stationary at the ramp. Nil Minor skin damage to left wingtip.
12 Oct. 1320L Denver, Colo. DC-10 of Federal Express N375FE FDX840 received warning horn on dept 16R & TWR advised that smoke was billowing from the main-gear Nil A/c landed back with minor gear damage - other circumstances are unknown.
12 Oct. Haneda, Japan 737 of Air Nippon Narrowly missed JMSDF P3C by 100ft over waters 165mls S of Tokyo, with the 737 forced to climb by a TCAS RA Nil / 162 o/b P3C enroute fm its Atsugi Base to Iwo Jima passed 100ft below the 737 (1000ft on finals to Hachijojima A/P).
13 Oct. 1125L Sitka, Alaska 737-700 of Alaskan N739AS struck a number of seagulls on climb-out Nil Internal damage to engine #1 compressor.
14 Oct. Shimojishima Okinawa Is Chain) 737-400 of unknown An inner main wheel separated from a B737-400 during local training. Crew noticed an ANTI-SKID INOP light) Nil After block in, the ground engineer advised them that they were missing one wheel.
14 Oct. 0130L Pittsburgh, Pa. ERJ-145 of US Airways Express N811HK was struck in the belly area by a tug that rolled beneath it. 1 inj A/c was parked at Gate #1. Fuselage underside skin perforation damage
14 Oct. 0908L Wilson A/P Kenya C208 Cessna Caravan 5YOY Air Kenya 14 seat a/c crashed just outside Nairobi in National Park Nil Cause unknown. A/c came down soon after take-off for Lamu Port.
15 Oct. 0500L Philadelphia, Pa. MD88 of Delta Flt: DAL987 Baggage cart blown into overnighting a/c by high winds Nil Extent of damage unknown.
15 Oct. 2100L Iron Mountain Michigan Beech 1900 air taxi Reg: N92SK Aircraft disabled on runway after landing skid caused by a right main-gear collapse/wheel loss. Nil Flt dept'd Escanaba. Right MLG trailing link came apart on t'down. Bolt & bushing was found on runway.
16 Oct. Hyderabad, India Fokker F-27 of the PAF AF A/c crashed near Southern Pakistan City of Hyderabad Unknown Casualties feared high.
17 October 2003 Nooriebad Southern Pakistan Non-existent of Unknown Pakistani CAA team investigating a reported plane-crash and fire found only a burnt-out airplane fuel-tank (that had fallen from a military jet). Nil Tank fell near village Ashiq Palari 25 kilometers from Nooriebad. Earlier reports suggested a crash and even the CAA had announced the mishap.
