All Weather, Inc. (AWI) is working with GECI Española SA to outfit 25 airfields across Venezuela with state-of-the-art Automated Weather Observing Systems (AWOS). Developed by AWI, AWOS is an unmanned system that provides up-to-the-minute weather data to airport personnel, pilots, and meteorological offices. “These systems will provide around-the-clock weather data to locations that, until now, have had limited access to weather information,” said Jason Hall, AWI president. “The airfields are often isolated and minimally staffed, so having a dedicated weather observer is impractical. The AWOS will fill a crucial gap by providing continuous weather data. Knowing the conditions at an airfield ahead of time will undoubtedly make access to these locations easier and safer.” Included in AWOS are sensors for measuring wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, rainfall, and barometric pressure. The AWOS makes the data collected by these sensors immediately available to pilots in flight via ground-to-air radio, and over dial-up connections for meteorological personnel and flight planners.
