V-22 One-Engine Landing: Check

Check off an engine-out landing as a demonstrated capability of an operational and fielded V-22. During the recent deployment of the U.S. Marine Corps' Marine Medium Tilt-Rotor Sqdn 263 (VMM-263) to Iraq, a "Thunder Chickens" crew was forced to perform the emergency maneuver with its Bell Helicopter/Boeing Osprey during a sortie from Al Asad air base. According to a senior V-22 program official, a rag had been left in a fuel tank, leading to fuel starvation of one of the aircraft's Rolls-Royce AE1107C Liberty engines. The Thunder Chickens  ended their seven-month deployment in April, and have been succeeded by VMM-162. VMM-263 left its 10 V-22s and two additional ones for VMM-162 to operate. For related news
