Boeing: Mexico, Brazil Hottest Markets for Aircraft; More News

Kathryn B. Creedy

Mexico is second only to Brazil as being the hottest market for regional aircraft, Boeing said on Monday. The company projected a 2.9% GDP growth for the southern most North American county between 2010-2019.

The news came as Boeing Commercial Aircraft Vice President Randy Tinseth visited the country noting Mexico’s burgeoning aerospace production. "Mexico has a strong aerospace market and growing, with a promising future," he said in Mexico City, noting Mexican airlines have increased their fleet by 33% in the last 10 years to 226 commercial jets.

Boeing’s forecast shows a 6.5% average growth rate in Mexico by 2019, well above the world average of 4.9%.

Citing the economic recession and influenza as twin blows to the Mexican industry, Tinseth said Latin American airlines will require 1640 aircraft, valued at $150 billion in the next 20 years. "The travel industry and tourism plays a key role in the Mexican economy, it is responsible for about 1 of every 8 jobs and 13% of GDP in Mexico," he said.
