UK Airport Passengers Must Get Scanned, Despite EU Ban
The "no security scan, no fly" policy is to remain active at U.K. airports despite the European Commission's appeal to let passengers be pat-down rather than scanned through an X-ray machine.
The EU recently banned the security measure in lieu of health risks the exposed radiation poses to passengers; however, the refusal to allow passengers to opt-out from scanning will be enforced through the Aviation Security Act.
Safety reports are being conducted in Brussels due to the health concerns raised by the security scanners. The Health Protection Agency has found that the scanners are safe for passengers to be scanned as many as 5,000 times a year, receiving a radiation dose equivalent that received naturally in two minutes of flight.
