Korean Air signed an agreement on the second day of the 2013 Paris Air Show to acquire five 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft and six 777-300ERs, a $3.6-billion order at current list prices.
The new agreement was the first at the air show involving Boeing
's $351-million 747-8 Intercontinental, which has seen little interest from airlines. Since entering service in 2012, Boeing
has confirmed just 105 orders for its four-engine, 467 passenger capacity 747-8, the majority of which were for the freighter version of the aircraft.
The Korean national carrier also supplies the raked wing-tips for the 747-8 and 787 passenger aircraft.
Boeing trails Airbus
in sales of four-engined aircraft at the Paris Air Show, as the European manufacturer secured an order for 20 of its A380s on Monday.
