Northwest Reports Regional Losses

Regionals contributed $1.399 billion to Northwest’s results in 2006, up 4.8 percent. However, regional expenses reached $1.406 billion, even as they went down 10.8 percent. During the period, the major carrier’s pre-tax profit reached $301 million before reorganization items versus a full year 2005 pre-tax loss of $1.38 billion before reorganization items. Including reorganization items, Northwest reported a full year 2006 net loss of $2.8 billion versus a $2.56 billion net loss for the full year 2005. However, the profit represented the first such results since 2000. Northwest’s total operating expenses of $11.828 billion which also dropped by 10.4 percent.
