NW Replacing DC 9s with RJs
As part of its capacity reductions, Northwest is reducing its 94-aircraft DC 9 fleet to 61 by year end including 20 DC9-30s and 41 DC9-40s/50s replacing them with 76-seat regional jets including the 36 Embraer ERJ 175s and 36 Bombardier CRJ 900s, making the fleet 30 percent more fuel efficient than the DC 9s. The RJs were ordered last year.
