Horizon Set to Shed RJs This Year
Again posting disappointing results and being described as a drag on parent-company Alaska’s results, Horizon and Alaska said they are looking at shedding the high-cost Bombardier CJR-700s in favor of more Q400s this year. Horizon is already shedding its Dash 8s which it sold to CommutAir and is now looking at the pros and cons of a single-aircraft fleet based on the Q400 and how that would compare to a two-aircraft fleet. ASMs are expected to grow only one percent in the first quarter. Horizon President Jeff Pinneo said revenues jumped 14.5 percent to $23 million on 10 percent growth in system capacity. For a complete analysis of Horizon and other regional feeder operations see next week's issue of Regional Aviation News.
