Financial Season Begins Today

AMR and United scheduled their fourth quarter/year-end conference calls for today with United expected to report the largest loss of any U.S. airline, according to analysts. Also on today's agenda is the confirmation hearing for Department of Transportation Secretary Designate Ray LaHood. Southwest is scheduled to report tomorrow with Delta, Allegiant, Air Tran, JetBlue, Alaska and US Airways set for next week. Analysts expect another $1 billion quarterly loss from U.S. airlines, although with fuel prices mitigated, it could have been much worse. Southwest is expected to post a profit while JetBlue, Alaska and Air Tran following with narrow losses, according to analysts.
