Big Sky to Launch Additional Delta Service from BOS

In the wake of a new deal making Big Sky Airlines part of its Delta Connection network, Delta will assign the regional carrier to increase service between Boston’s Logan airport and the top Northeastern business markets as part of its plans to emerge from bankruptcy this spring. The new service will include the addition of 16 new daily flights to business markets using Beech 1900Ds. While destinations remain unnamed, the top business markets include Burlington, Vt, Albany, N.Y. and Portland, ME. The Delta-Big Sky venture could include Augusta, Bar Harbor, Presque Isle, and Rockland, Maine; Rutland, Vt.; Rochester, Syracuse, and White Plains, N.Y.; and Allentown and Wilkes-Barre, Pa. It may also use the more economical aircraft to replace regional jet service to Bangor, ME and Trenton, N.J. Currently, Delta offers about 90 daily flights from Boston to 31 destinations. It will be the first time Big Sky has flown beyond its home turf in the Northwest. By spring, Delta will have 130 flights out of Boston, expanding by 24 more flights by the mainline carrier from the airport.
