[Aviation Today May 23, 2014] Pratt & Whitney has delivered the initial set of its PurePower PW1100G-JM engines to Airbus, which will be one of two options for the new A320neo (new engine option).
The engine will continue to undergo testing with Pratt & Whitney expecting certification within the second half of 2014. Compared to the existing A320 engine, the PW1100G-JM will provide a 15 percent reduction in fuel burn and a 75 percent reaction in the aircraft's "noise footprint."
"Our PurePower engine family has now completed more than 9,000 hours of rigorous testing, which is proving the engine's capability and reliability. We are on track and ready to power the first A320neo aircraft in late summer," said David Branter, president of Pratt & Whitney commercial engines.
The first A320neo powerd by the PW1100G-JM is planned for the fourth quarter of 2015, according to Pratt & Whitney.
