Airbus A400M Makes Maiden Flight

Airbus announced the successful maiden flight of its first production A400M military airlifter aircraft.

The aircraft’s first flight occurred from Seville, Spain, lasting five hours and 42 minutes. The A400M is a multi-role aircraft capable of Mach 0.72 cruising speeds at altitudes of up to 37,000 feet.

Airbus Military and Thales UK announced an 18-year contract with the UK Ministry of Defense earlier this week to supply training services for A400Ms that will be operated by the Royal Air Force.

The French Air Force is the launch customer for the aircraft, scheduled to take delivery of its first A400M in the second quarter of 2013. More
