Airbus A350 Completes Cold Weather Testing

[Aviation Today January 28, 2014] The Airbus A350 XWB flight test aircraft MSN3 has completed cold weather testing in Iqaluit, Canada.

Temperatures reached lows of 28 below zero, allowing engineers to test APU and engine starts after cold soak to verify the aircraft's system behavior during low-speed taxi and rejected takeoffs. There was also a local flight conducted with the test aircraft.

The latest round of testing follows the recent completion of high altitude tests in Bolivia. In total, Airbus will perform 2,500 flight hours with the fleet of five test aircraft during the testing phase, prior to receiving EASA and FAA airworthiness certification expected prior to the entry into service in the fourth quarter of 2014.
