Air Berlin Appoints New CEO

Air Berlin has appointed Wolfgang Prock-Shauer as its new CEO, replacing Hartmut Mehdorn who will remain with the airline’s board of directors. Prock-Shauer formerly was Air Berlin’s chief strategy and planning officer (CSPO).

Hans-Joachim Koerber, the chairman of the board at Air Berlin, said the new CEO will continue to oversee the “decisive reorganization” of the company, which has not been profitable since 2008 and was hit hard by the recent “crisis in European aviation.”

Mehdorn held the title of interim CEO since September 2011.

“Air Berlin is facing huge challenges. We must continue to push our process of change forward rapidly to become lean and smart, so that we can be successful in the global competitive environment. Together with my colleagues on the Board of Directors, the Management Board, and the employees of Air Berlin we will put all our effort into this task,” said Prock-Shauer, commenting on his new position.
