Brazilian Authorities Condemned

After Brazilian authorities recommended the criminal prosecutions of ExcelAire pilots Joseph Lepore and Jan Paladino, the National Business Aircraft Association, Flight Safety Foundation and the International Federation of Air Line Pilot’s Associations condemned the action which stemmed from last September’s midair between the pilots’ Embraer Legacy and a Gol Airline 737. The organizations criticized the “staggering oversight” of Brazil’s Federal Police for excluding the military from its investigation despite the police admission that air traffic controller performance contributed to the event which killed all 154 aboard the 737. The organizations await charges against the controllers by the country’s military.
