Supply Side
Bombardier
Bombardier [BBD] last month delivered its first CRJ 705 model to Air Canada Jazz. The carrier has ordered 15 of the 75-seat CRJ 705s and 15 CRJ 200s in a deal valued at $821.2 million. Jazz has configured the 705 into two cabins. The 705 is based on the CRJ 900. By mid-2006, Jazz will operate close to 130 Canadian-built aircraft.
The Italian government has ordered one Bombardier 415 amphibious aircraft for its firefighting operations. The Italian Civil Protection Department has been building a fleet of 16 415s since 1995. It can complete nine water drops within an hour.
B/E Aerospace
Air Canada has select B/E Aerospace [BEAV] to perform a fleet-wide upgrade of seats on both its narrow-body and regional jets. The contract is worth $50 million and will begin late this year. The carrier is purchasing B/E's Spectrum class of seats for the first class cabins on 143 airplanes.
AAR
Ré§Šonal, a unit of Air France, has signed a five-year contract with AAR [AIR] to provide logistics support and component repair services for the carrier's fleet of 11 Embraer [ERJ] Brasilias.
L-3 Communications
The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has ordered additional Examiner 3DX explosive detection systems, manufactured by L-3 Communications. The order has been valued at $28 million.
TIMCO
TIMCO Aviation Services, a provider of maintenance, repair and overhaul services for regional and mainline airlines, reported an increase in its first quarter profits. The Greensboro, N.C., company earned $1.2 million, or 2 cents per share, on revenue of $90.7 million in the first quarter. A year ago, the company earned $100,000 on revenue of $83.5 million. The higher yield was attributed to improved efficiencies.
FlightSafety
FlightSafety International has promoted John Marino to the position of vice president for government relations. Marino had been the sales and marketing manager for Asia, based in Beijing. He joined the company in 1979. (
