go! in Near Collision with Military Transport

A go! CRJ 200 was involved in a runway incident at Honolulu (HNL) on May 14 when a military pilot, enroute to Hickam Air Force Base, failed to follow controller instructions. The C-130 pilot was arriving at HNL in the early evening when he was told to taxi west on a taxi-way instead of crossing an active runway. Instead of turning left he nearly crossed the path of a go! jet barreling down the runway for take off and having almost reached take-off speed. The controller told the C-130 pilot to stop immediately narrowly avoiding a collision as the CRJ 200 took off. While press reports quoted the FAA as saying the C-130 was 110 feet from the runway, controllers said it was as close at 10 feet. An investigation was launched as well as one by the military.
