Trans States/GoJet Increases Efficiency
Trans States CEO Rick Leach reported available seat miles grew 26 percent between 2005 and 2006 not by adding shells but by improving the utilization of aircraft for both American (AMR) and USAirways (LCC) partners. At one point its Embraer (ERJ) ERJ 145s were flying 12 hours a day but are now down to 11 hours daily. Last year was a transition year, said Leach at the RAA meeting, as it became an all-jet airlines with its 145s and CRJ 700s, having shed both its ATRs and Jetstream 41s. He remains interested in turboprops, if the right opportunity arose, such as the Bombardier (BBD) Q400 which, he said, offers exciting advantages. He described Transtates and GoJet as at their “fighting weight ready to grow the platforms.”
