Traffic Watch - May

Air Wisconsin

Air Wisconsin (AWAC) revenue passenger miles (RPMs) dropped 18.4 percent in May, finishing the month at 209.9 million RPMs. The nation's largest privately held regional airline continues to contend with changes in the US Airways Express network. Its available seat miles dropped 19.4 percent, to 275 million. Load factor increased 0.90 points to 76.3 percent. Passengers carried fell 14.6 percent to 525,929. Year to date, the carrier flew 2,462,302 passenger, down 16.6 percent. RPMs dropped 20.5 percent to 947,496 million, while ASMs fell 18.2 percent to 1.3 billion. Load factor was down 2.10 points to 70.4 percent during the period.

Midwest Air Group

Midwest Airlines (MEH) carried 305,324 passengers in May, up 24.5 percent from the year-ago period. At the same time, the airline flew 316.6 million RPMs, an increase of 24.7 percent. ASMs reached 401.6 million, up 12.1 percent. Load factor rose 7.9 points to 78.8 percent.

Midwest Connect served four percent more passengers during May at 72,298, as RPMs jumped 13 percent to 23.1 million. ASMs increase 2.8 percent to 33.5 million, as load factor increased 6.3 points to 69.1 percent. It increased revenue yield 2.3 percent to 37 cents, while RASM jumped 12.5 percent to 26 cents. Year to date, the operation carried 333,333, up 2.8 percent while RPMs rose 8.8 percent to 102.8 million. ASMs reached 158.5 million, up slightly by 0.3 percent. Load factor increased 5 points to 64.9 percent. Revenue yield increased 7.2 percent to 37 cents, while RASM rose 16.2 percent to 24 cents.

SkyWest

The consolidation of SkyWest (SKYW) and Atlantic Southeast Airlines continues to result in high increases in year-over-year statistics. The airline reported a 117.6 percent increase in RPMs to 1.36 billion for May, while ASMs increased 100.6 percent over the year-ago period to 1.71 billion. Load factor was up 6.2 points, to 79.6 percent. The carrier boarded 2,739,162, a 99.2 percent increase over May 2005. Year to day, the carrier reported a 98.4 percent increase in passengers carried to 12,722,752. RPMs reached 6.28 billion, up 119.9 percent and ASMs rose 106.7 percent to 8.0 billion. Load factor increased 4.7 points, to 78 percent.
