Supply side
ATR
UT Air, a Russian carrier, is purchasing two ATR 42-300s from ATR as the foundation to develop a regional market in Khanty-Mansiysk. The first plane will be delivered in June from the fleet of Continental Airlines [CAL]. UT Air is the first Russian airline to add the ATR to its fleet. UT Air operates 60 aircraft, including the world's largest fleet of commercial helicopters. Last year, UT Air requested proposals for as many as 15 new planes.
Embraer
Brazilian aviation authorities have certified the Embraer [ERJ] Legacy to operate at altitudes as high as 41,000 feet. The Legacy is a corporate jet based on the ERJ 135 platform, which can carry 16 passengers. The first Legacy certified for the high altitude flying will be delivered this quarter.
FASS
The United Kingdom's Federation of Aerospace Support Services (FASS) has launched a Central Contractor Register. The group has a goal of obtaining 90 percent of the contracting workforce to be part of the database within two years. The FASS includes at least 14 aviation recruiting agencies.
MCL Services
Viva Air Dominicana has signed an outsourcing service agreement with MCL Services y Mantanimento de Aeronaves. The on-demand services at most major airports in the Dominican Republic are to include A checks, daily line maintenance inspections, repairs and services and all record keeping.
TIMCO
TIMCO Aviation Services [TMAS] posted a $900,000 net profit in 2004, or 3 cents per share, reversing a net loss of $300,000, or 1 cent per share, that it posted in 2003. A 33 percent increase in sales from $242.5 million in 2003 to $323.5 million in 2004 enabled the turnaround.
