Supply Side
Bombardier
Caribbean Aircraft Leasing , an affiliate of Stanford Financial Group, has purchased three Bombardier [BBD] Q300 turboprops to be flown by Caribbean Star Airlines and Caribbean Sun Airlines, two related companies. The order, valued at $49 million, should be delivered next spring. The 50-seat turboprops will be used by either carrier - Caribbean Star based in Antigua or Caribbean Sun based at Fort Lauderdale. The combined fleet already contains six Q300s and 12 37- seat Q100s.
Bombardier's train division recently won a 10-year contract to operate and maintain the automated people mover system at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The $98 million contract can be extended up to 20 years. Bombardier built and has operated the 49 tram cars since 1980.
Embraer
India's Paramount Airways last week placed its first Embraer [ERJ] 170 into commercial service as it flew a route from Delhi to Coimbatore and Cochin. Paramount is the first Indian customer for the new Embraer jet family. The carrier has leased two Embraer 170s and three Embraer 175s, all of which will be delivered over the next 12 months.
Cimber Data
Denmark's Cimber Data has appointed Rune Hagen as it next CEO, replacing Hans-Ingolf Nielsen, who is resigning to run a helicopter charter business. Hagen, a Cimber employee since 1988, had been working in the company's Norway operations. Cimber Data is the developer of Amicos, an aircraft maintenance planning system. The company recently renewed its Amicos contract with Sterling, a Danish operator of 20 Boeing [BA] 737s.
