Quick Takes

  • Atlantic Southeast Airlines selected ARINC's GLOBALink for its integrated air/ground communications services. The digital data link service will be provided over the company's GLOBALink/VHF network using VDLM2 digital protocol. In addition, ARINC's web-based OpCenter hosted messaging service will manage ASA's delivery, processing and retrieval of air/ground and ground/ground operational messages. ARINC will also integrate a number of paperless data applications for the company, including extensive ground maintenance data collection and weight-and-balance applications. The contract calls for ARINC to provide on-site implementation, engineering, expertise, and applications support during deployment, which is expected to take 15 months. ASA started installing the required VDLM2 avionics on its fleet of more than 140 CRJ-200 and CRJ-700 aircaft.
  • Bombardier and Lufthansa Technik AG are partnering in the launch of a new Total Support Program (TSP) for the Bombardier CRJ regional jet family. The partnership will provide MRO services for avionics, landing gears, wheels and brakes and APUs. LT has a large component pool along with state-of-the-art painting services, technical training and engineering services. Engine support for the GE CF34-8C series powering the CRJ700 and 900 will be handled by group subsidiary Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey. The new relationship also will tap the resources of LT's Airframe Related Component ARC service network, including Lufthansa Technik Composite Tulsa and Lufthansa Technik Shenshen.
