Quick Takes
- The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is now accepting applications for the 2006 Small Community Air Service Development program. This year there is $10 million - one-half of previous years - to be divided between up to 40 communities. The applications are due on April 7. Application materials are available on the DOT docket at OST-2006-23671.
- Alpine Air [APNX] has won an additional mail route in Hawaii as part of rebidding on an earlier contract that Alpine had, but gave up. In 2004, Alpine won contracts to serve the entire state but it found that it was losing money on the contract so it gave the routes back early last year. Last fall, it won three routes back at a higher fee. A second route re-bid in December has not been awarded (RAN, Dec. 5, 2005).
- Texas-based Business Jet Services, an established Part 135 charter operator, is seeking permission to fly a BAC 1-11. The carrier had been flying the 30-seat airplane until it was informed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that an additional certificate would be needed. Docket: OST-2006-23695.
- ACE Aviation Holdings [ACE] recently determined it would sell 22 percent of Jazz at $10 Canadian per share to Canadian investors (RAN, Dec. 5, 2005).
