ExpressJet, go! Mark Millionth Customer
Doing in five months what it took go! to do in 17 months, ExpressJet ‘s branded operation welcomed aboard its one millionth customer with customer Stephen Lord on flight number XE 0104 departing from L.A./Ontario to Colorado Springs at 12:40 PM. Of course it helps that ExpressJet has 10 times the number of aircraft as go! ExpressJet’s milestone occurred just as it was tweaking its scheduled with the addition Long Beach, Santa Barbara and Reno-Tahoe.
go! flew its 1,000,000th passenger and marked the milestone with a celebration at Honolulu International Airport. The millionth passenger was named onboard go!'s 12:30pm flight from Kona to Honolulu. The recipient, Queenie Ventura Dowsett, of Waimea, Hawai'i, was greeted on arrival in Honolulu with a gift of one million go!Miles and a $200 gift certificate to the restaurant of her choice. Dowsett, a frequent go! customer, is a long time resident and rancher from the Big Island and was in Honolulu to attend the International Waikiki Hula. go! also announced it launched a "Thanks a Million!" sale in celebration of its 1,000,000th passenger. Starting Wednesday, November 14, 2007 go! began offering one-way fares as low as $29.
Adria Airways Orders Orders Bombardier NextGen Airliners
Adria Airways of Ljubljana, Slovenia has signed a firm order for two Bombardier CRJ900 NextGen and one CRJ1000 NextGen regional jets. Adria is the fourth airline to order the Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen aircraft, launched in February, 2007. The value of the order based on the aircraft list prices is approximately $122.7 million.
Adria Airways, a Star Alliance Regional carrier, has been a Bombardier customer since March, 1997 when it placed an order for two CRJ200 50-passenger regional jets. It currently operates seven of these aircraft as well as two 86-seat CRJ900 jets that entered service in May, 2007.
“The CRJ900 jet has allowed us to increase capacity beyond 50 seats and replace our larger jets on routes with insufficient capacity for them,” said Tadej Tufek, Chief Executive Officer, Adria Airways. “Our CRJ900 NextGen aircraft will allow us to continue along this path. And we are delighted to be an early customer for the new CRJ1000 NextGen aircraft which promises significant operating cost advantages over other 100-seat jets as well as improved passenger comfort,” added Mr. Tufek.
Adria Airways is the Bombardier CRJ Recognized Service Facility in Europe, providing heavy maintenance on all models of the CRJ Series.
ATR and Malaysia Airlines Sign MoU for 10 ATR 72-500s
ATR and Malaysia Airlines (MAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the purchase of a fleet of 10 ATR 72-500s and options for five additional aircraft. The agreement, valued at approximately $285 million including options, has been inked in Toulouse by Stephane Mayer, ATR CEO, and Tengku Azmil Zahruddin, executive director and chief finance officer of Malaysia Airlines.
These ATR 72-500s, configured with 68-seats, will be operated by MASWings, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines to expand its services in the states of Sabah and Sarawak in East Malaysia. The airline will take delivery of the aircraft in 2009 and 2010.
In July this year, Malaysia Airlines already signed an MoU with ATR to acquire 10 ATR 72-500s with options for 10 additional aircraft for Firefly, another wholly-owned subsidiary.
"The new aircraft will enable MASWings to expand its capacity by 150 percent,” said Tengku Azmil Zahruddin. “This will allow MASWings to meet the future demand in air travel within Sabah and Sarawak, and connect more customers worldwide to the two states. As such, MASWings will progressively add new frequencies in addition to expanding its services to more destinations in East Malaysia".
AEROMAR Upgauges
AEROMAR signed an MoU for the purchase of two ATR 72-500s at a total value of this agreement is over $36 million. The new ATR-72s are powered by new, higher-rated PW 127M engines developed for hot-and-high operations. The aircraft will be equipped with the “Elegance” cabin and the “In-flight Entertainment” system as well as with state-of-the-art technological innovations in passenger comfort, communications and navigation aid tools. The ATR 72 aircraft also has the lowest CO2 emissions of regional aircraft, according to ATR.
Since the beginning of the year, ATR has received orders for 88 new aircraft, some of them not yet unveiled. Since the beginning of the program, ATR has sold 925 aircraft (414 ATR 42s and 511 ATR 72s) and has delivered 746 (396 ATR 42s and 350 ATR 72s), thus posting a current backlog of 179 aircraft.
Founded in 1987, AEROMAR, the executive airline of Mexico, generates more than 1,000 direct jobs and has a fleet of 16 ATR-42 aircraft. Aeromar has more than 25 routes in Mexico offering attractive business and tourism packages.
M.E. LCC Orders ERJs
Embraer has signed NAS Air, of Saudi Arabia, for the sale of five Embraer ERJ 190 E-Jets, with options for another five. The contract also includes purchase rights for 12 more aircraft of the same model. The total value of the deal, at list price, is $172.5million, based on January 2007 economic conditions, and could reach $759 million, if all options and purchase rights are confirmed. NAS Air has also signed a separate agreement with GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) tooperate another five E-Jets – three ERJ 190s and two ERJ 195s – under a leasing contract.
“The NAS Air business model uniquely combines a low fare airline operation with a high standard of ground and in-flight passenger services,” said Mauro Kern, Embraer executive vice president, Airline Market.
Both aircraft will be configured in a comfortable single-class layout – the 190 with 114 seats, and the 195 with 118. The E-Jets will be based at King Khaled International Airport (KKIA), in Riyadh.
NAS Air will receive its first E-Jet in February 2008 through the GECAS leasing contract. The company intends to deploy the aircraft in its growing domestic and regional markets. Created in
February 2007 as Saudi Arabia’s first budget airline, NAS Air has quickly expanded to become the second largest airline in the country. The company now serves 21 cities in the country with a fleet of seven aircraft. The Embraer E-Jets will be used to increase the number of weekly flights from 70 to 358.
Jazz takes delivery of 16th CRJ705 jet aircraft
Jazz added another CRJ705 aircraft to its fleet, last week, bringing the number of 75-seat CRJ705s operated by Jazz to 16. It is the lead operator of the aircraft having taken delivery of the world’s first in May 2005. The first flight for the new CRJ705 is scheduled to operate from Toronto to Thunder Bay, departing at 0630, on Tuesday, November 20, 2007.
Jazz operates a fleet of 36 Dash 8-100s, 26 Dash 8-300s, 25 CRJ100s, 32 CRJ200s and 16 CRJ705s to 84 destinations across Canada and the U.S. This latest addition to the fleet is a replacement aircraft for the CRJ100 which was previously removed from the fleet.
Bombardier CSeries Mock Up Continues Tour
Emphasizing its commitment to the Middle East’s booming aviation market, Bombardier Aerospace arrived at the Dubai Airshow with a selection of corporate jets, its Bombardier CRJ900 NextGen regional jet and a new full-scale mock-up of the next generation CSeries airliner, which was first revealed in June. The worldwide tour will help Bombardier decide whether or not to launch the 110- to 145-seat aircraft next year.
Delta Launches New Weekend ATL-Aspen Service
Delta Air Lines launches the only nonstop service to Aspen from the East beginning February 16 when SkyWest connects Atlanta to Aspen/Snowmass using a Bombardier CRJ 700.
