Mesaba Wins Northwest Contract

In a competitive bidding process, Mesaba Aviation [MAIR] last month won the rights to fly 15 Bombarider [BBD] CRJ 200s for Northwest Airlines [NWAC].

Until now, Mesaba's RJ fleet has been comprised of 42 Avro RJ85s. Mesaba is leasing the new aircraft from Northwest and it will be flying the first 50-seat RJ by the end of the year. The deal includes an option for 40 additional aircraft: either more of the 50-seat RJs or the 44-seat CRJ 440. Pinnacle Airlines [PNCL] had been the only carrier flying the Bombardier jets for Northwest.
