Jazz Launches New Halifax Service

Air Canada Jazz will launch new twice daily non-stop service between Gander and Halifax, on June 30 using a combination of 50-seat Bombardier (BBD) CRJ regional aircraft and 37-seat Dash 8-100 aircraft during the summer, becoming all CRJ service in winter. This new service complements existing daily flights between Gander and St. John's. From Newfoundland and Labrador, and from Halifax, Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz offer more than 415 scheduled flights each week to 14 destinations across Canada.

Air Midwest/Midwest Begin Code Sharing
Amid persistent rumors that Mesa (MESA) was selling its Air Midwest division, the airline and its new partner Midwest Airlines (MEH) announced a code-share agreement between the two carriers, expanding on its existing code share with flights to six new cities from Kansas City. Beginning May 6, Midwest passengers will be able to connect in Kansas City on Air Midwest/US Airways Express to and from Columbia/Jefferson City, Joplin, and Kirksville, Mo. and Grand Island, McCook and Omaha, Neb. The partnership, in place since 2001, already provides connecting service to Little Rock, Ark. and Dodge City, Garden City, Great Bend, Hays, Manhattan and Salina, Kan. The announcement is the next step in the continuing roll-out of Midwest's 2007 strategic plan.

American's South Florida Fare Sale
American and American Eagle launched a fare sale with prices ranging from $50 each way for Miami-Freeport to $119 for Miami-Aruba. The sale is effective for both Miami and Fort Lauderdale to select locations in the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Mexico and Latin America. American is also offering fares ranging from $95 for Miami-Mexico City to $149 for Miami-St. Lucia, BWI.

Colorado Springs Gets Increased Service
Delta (DALRQ) and USAirways (LCC) are adding regional jet flights from Colorado Springs. LCC is adding 50-seat jets on its additional Las-Vegas route beginning April 17, while, on June 8, Delta adde new 70-seat jet service to Atlanta. In addition, ExpressJet’s (XJT) new branded service adds two daily flights to San Diego on May 7 in addition to the new service, which launches Monday to Ontario and Sacramento. Midwest Airlines’ partnership with SkyWest (SKYW) will add three daily nonstops to Kansas City July 1 using Bombardier CRJ200s. The additional flights restore almost half the passenger capacity lost in the past year. The additions, along with a sixth daily mainline flight to Dallas/Fort Worth, increases capacity at the airport by 22 percent from the first quarter. The airport's main runway is set to re-open May 15, eliminating the necessity for weight restictions experienced last summer by its closure. The move cost the airport a 15 percent cut in capacity since it forced airliners to use the airport’s shorter runways.
