Continental Airlines Begins Nonstop Service Between Houston and Loreto
Continental Airlines (CAL) begins twice-weekly service today between Houston, and Loreto, Mexico, the airline's 31st Mexican destination using ExpressJet (XJT) and its Embraer 145. Continental offers service to more destinations in Mexico than any other U.S. airline. In the fall, the service will operate once a week on Saturdays. Located in Mexico's Baja California peninsula, Loreto is a popular eco-tourism destination featuring beaches, nearby mountains, kayaking, hiking, scuba diving and sport fishing, a protected marine bio-region and colonial architecture.
American Eagle Adds Mexico Flight, Earns FAA Award
In response to high demand, American Eagle added an extra weekly flight on weekends between Miami International Airport and Cozumel International Airport, effective June 2, 2007. American Eagle will serve the two cities using 64-seat ATR-72s. The carrier is adding an extra flight on the weekends. Service to Cozumel from Miami began March 2. This is the eighth destination that American Eagle flies to in Mexico, and the first destination to be offered from Miami.
In separate news, American Airlines (AMR), American Eagle and Texas Aero Engine Services Limited (TAESL), an affiliated engine repair facility, have qualified for the coveted Federal Aviation Administration's Diamond Award for excellence in training their Aviation Maintenance Technicians (AMT). The awards were announced as the two airlines and TAESL, a joint venture owned by American and Rolls-Royce, celebrated May 24 as Aviation Maintenance Technicians Day throughout their organizations. The three companies will receive the FAA Diamond Certificate of Excellence for training their AMTs completed in 2006. American Airlines and TAESL have received the award for three consecutive years and American Eagle has received it for the second consecutive time.
