FAA Issues New ERJ 170 AD
The FAA issued an airworthiness directive (AD) calling for the replacement of low-stage check valve and associated seals of right-hand engine bleed system based on a report that an engine shut down during flight owing to the failure of the low-stage check valve to close. The AD, to prevent further in-flight shut downs, adds additional types to be covered by a previous AD and now applies to all Embraer (ERJ) ERJ 170-100LR, -100STD, -100SE and -100SU aircraft. The AD, effective September 13, also requires repetitively replacing the low-stage check valve and associated seals of the left-hand engine bleed system with a new check valve and new seals. It is considered to be interim action since Embraer is currently developing a modification for the problem. Once the modification is approved the FAA may instigate additional rulemaking.
