Copa Converts Three E 190 Options to Firm Orders, Expands Operations
With the conversion of three additional Embraer 190 options to firm orders, Copa Airlines' Embraer (ERJ) orderbook now stands at 15 for the advanced range versions of the 100- seat jet. The company also is acquiring a new Boeing 737-800, bringing its total Boeing Next Generation aircraft orderbook to eight. Copa, a subsidiary of Copa Holdings, S.A. (CPA), has already taken delivery of two of its firm orders, putting them into service from its Hub of the Americas in Panama City, Panama. The 15 aircraft are being added to its fleet of Boeing 737s, serving the Latin and North American markets as a Continental Express affiliate. The airline also has 15 more options on the Embraer jet. Deliveries of the new orders are scheduled for 2007 and 2008. The Embraer E-Jets have been ordered by 17 airlines in 15 countries; the Copa order one is of 65 orders and options in the Latin American market. Embraer's E-Jet orderbook now stands at 452 firm orders. Copa is expanding its Latin American operations to include five new destinations: Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago; Manaus, Brazil; Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic; Montevideo, Uruguay; and San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The expansion includes taking delivery of two new Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft and four new Embraer 190AR aircraft. Copa will operate the Montevideo route with Boeing 737 NG aircraft, and will use the Embraer 190AR aircraft on the flights to Manaus, Santiago and Port of Spain. The Brazilian-made Embraer aircraft seats 94 passengers, with 10 business class seats and 84 in tourist class.
