Comair Files to Void Labor Contract with Flight Attendants

Comair filed a motion with its U.S. bankruptcy court to reject the collective bargaining agreement with its flight attendants, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT). The move follows action in late April when Federal Bankruptcy Judge Adlai Hardin refused Comair's last motion to reject the Teamster contract which covers 1,100 flight attendants. Flight attendants contend that the airline's plans place too much of a burden on its members.

The motion follows bargaining sessions which ended in mid-June with the union presenting a final proposal containing savings for the wholly owned subsidiary of Delta (DALQ), as well as job protections for its cabin staff.

The flight attendant agreement is the lynch pin for gaining concessions from pilots and mechanics who have already agreed to concessions contingent on a similar agreement with flight attendants. Comair wants flight attendants to agree to concessions amounting to $8.9 million, which would be part of an effort to cut $42 million in expenses.
