C/R News To Award Turboprop Airline Executive Of The Year
Beginning at this year's Regional Airline Association (RAA) Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Ariz., C/R News will present two awards to outstanding regional airline executives. C/R News has, for the past several years, presented the "Regional Airline Executive of the Year" award to the head of a regional carrier who has shown exceptional leadership in making his airline successful. In 2002, the award was presented to Randy Rademacher, president of Comair, for guiding his airline through a devastating 89-day strike and successfully returning it to full capacity.
However, recipients of the Regional Airline Executive of the Year award tend to come from the larger regional carriers, most or all of whom primarily operate regional jets. In recognition of the fact that there are numerous small regional carriers that are also well run and highly respected in the industry, C/R News has decided to host a second award to recognize superior achievement by those regional airline executives.
We will therefore be presenting a "Regional Jet Airline Executive of the Year" award and a "Turboprop Airline Executive of the Year" award at this year's RAA meeting. The Regional Jet Airline Executive award will cover those airlines whose fleets as of April 1 have 50 percent or more regional jets. The Turboprop Airline Executive award will cover those airlines whose fleets as of April 1 have 51 percent or more turboprops.
The award for a regional jet operator will be sponsored by Rolls-Royce, whose engines power a host of RJs, from the Embraer ERJ-135 to the Fokker F70 and F100. The turboprop award is being jointly sponsored by Saab Aircraft Leasing, a leading portfolio management representative for Saab 340s and 2000s, and Raytheon Airline Aviation Services, the sales, marketing and customer support organization for the Beechcraft 1900 and 99.
C/R News is calling for nominations for both awards. Anyone wishing to nominate a candidate for either category should send that nomination, along with supporting documentation, to Douglas Nelms, Senior Editor, Commuter/Regional Airline News, 1201 Seven Locks Rd., Potomac, Md. 20854; or e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
