- Bombardier [BBD]delivered the first of 25 70-seat CRJ 700s to PSA Airlines, a unit of US Airways [UAIR]. It will be the first 70-seat regional jet to operate in the US Airways Express fleet. Last May, the carrier announced it placed an order for both the CRJ 700s and 60 CRJ 200s, which seat 50 passengers. Bombardier has delivered 16 of the CRJ 200s to the Dayton, Ohio-based carrier.
- To service both its regional jets and Q series turboprops, Bombardier opened a new heavy maintenance facility in Tucson, Ariz. Modeled after its facility in Bridgeport, W. Va., the new Arizona hangar can handle up to 10 regional aircraft at one time. The facility is located at the Tucson International Airport on the site of the Bombardier business aircraft completion center. A Mesa Air [MESA] CRJ 900 was the first plane served in the center.
- Atlantic Coast Airlines [ACAI] chairman Kerry Skeen has been named CEO of the Year by the George Washington University's Executive Master of Business Program. Skeen was selected because "he is one of the most visionary leaders in the Washington, D.C., region." The school cited Skeen's plan to develop Independence Air as a low-fare carrier using a fleet of regional jets as an example of his leadership.
- ExelTech recently announced it won new heavy maintenance contracts with five international airlines valued at $5.3 million. It will perform heavy maintenance checks on two Dash 8s for Island Air, three ATR-42s for Cape Air, two ATR-42s for Air Guyane, seven Dash 8s for Caribbean Star Airlines and one Dash 8 for Air Jamaica Express. All the work will be performed at its facility in Montreal.
