Bombardier To Restart CRJ 200 Production Line

Bombardier [BBD] in April will re-start its CRJ 200 production line in suburban Montreal. The company suspended production of the RJs last October due to declining orders.

When production resumes, Bombardier will be building its Challenger 850s business jet, which uses the same platform as the CRJ 200.

Since the first Challenger 850 was delivered last May, Bombardier has produced 20 planes. It now has four orders to fill. The company will recall 50 employees.

When worked stopped on the 50-seat CRJ 200s last fall there were still 13 planes on the assembly line. Bombardier converted these planes into the business jet, which is sold either as a 27-seat corporate shuttle or a large-cabin business jet.

About 380 employees at the Dorval plant will remain furloughed.
